Terminology in Translation

Today I’m talking about the meaningful role of reliable Terminology in Translation.

In depth-research and understanding of technical terms is a major part of any translator’s job, particularly one working in a specialist field. Compiling a bank of terminology can seem daunting at first, but it is essential for maintaining consistency throughout a document.

Although it may seem like an extra step to the translation process, reliable terminology is key to producing a document that is corrective and fit for use.

Information Overload

As we now live in a world of information overload where anyone can write anything online, a major part of this job is discerning which sources of information to trust and which to discard. However, a decent translator will know how to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Experienced Translator

When it comes to Terminology in Translation, an experienced translator will have their preferred sources of information and research.  Along with my past work and the glossaries and term banks I have built up over previous years, I regularly use books such as Enrique Alcaraz Varó’s Legal Translation Explained and El inglés jurídico, McElroy and Herrera´s Spanish-English English-Spanish medical dictionary and trustworthy websites.

When you work with me, you can be sure that I will do in-depth research complicated terms to ensure your documents are consistent and hit the right note every time.
